Sacramento County deputies are looking into a violent incident that occurred on April 18 2026 at the Howe Community Park area at the time authorities were shutting down an unsanctioned gathering of a crowd of several hundred.
What Led to the Shooting
Law enforcement were first dispatched to the Arden-Arcade park at about 6:30 PM after learning of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Following that, another report was received describing an alleged brawl occurring near the park.
Aerial units searched from above but found nothing to substantiate the fight Howe Community Park shooting 2026 report. Regardless, it was evident that a crowd of several hundred had packed into the park without permission.
The Dispersal and Shooting
Law enforcement personnel set about removing people from the park by forming a perimeter and announcing over their public address systems directing the crowd to disperse at once. Roughly 15 minutes were given for individuals to vacate.
At the height of the dispersal effort that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition rang out. The barrage of gunfire triggered a stampede. Responding personnel quickly moved to locating gunshot victims.
Four People Shot
In total, four victims were located with gunshot injuries. All four — made up of one woman and three men ranging in age through their in their mid to late twenties — were rushed to nearby hospitals. Medical personnel confirmed that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Fortunately, each of the four victims was stable.
Sacramento Metro Fire arrived on scene and aided in treating shooting victims before they were taken to the hospital.
Evidence at the Scene
The center of the incident seemed to have taken place adjacent to the Cottage Way side of the park close to the Home Depot on the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Detectives found additional shell casings on Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were discovered in the iron fence alongside the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries showed that one of the gunmen had been firing southward from along Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot. That Home Depot location was placed on lockdown as a precaution. CSI investigators and detectives remained on scene well into the night.
Suspects Detained
Details gathered through scanner monitoring indicated that a Kia was contacted by law enforcement in Solano County California. Four occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Sacramento law enforcement were sent to retrieve the detainees to collect the individuals for processing in Sacramento County. Video evidence showed that two individuals had fired weapons.
